Cambridgeshire road closures and cycle lane suspensions from Sept 2026

Cambridgeshire County Council has issued a series of temporary traffic orders affecting Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire from early September 2026, covering road closures, cycle lane suspensions and a long footpath closure to enable utility, resurfacing and safety works.

The council said restrictions will operate only when signing is in place, with most orders remaining live for up to 18 months to allow for contingencies such as phased delivery. Signed diversion routes will be provided where required.

Ferrars Way, Cambridge: road closed between no. 22 and Cockerell Road from September 1 to September 4 2026 for water connection.

Barton Road, Grantchester (A603 to Grantchester Road): night closures 8pm to 6am from September 21 to September 27 2026 for resurfacing and bridge joint repairs; signed routes via the A603, M11 and A1303, with non-motorway alternatives available.

Lovell Road, Cambridge: closed between nos. 66 and 106 on September 15 to September 16 2026, 8am to 6pm, for telecommunications; property access maintained.

Kings Hedges Road, Cambridge: cycle lane suspended between Campkin Road and Ramsden Square from September 7 to September 8 2026, 9.30am to 3.30pm, for telecommunications.

Keynes Road, Cambridge: closed between Dudley Road and the access road between Keynes Road and Ekin Road from September 1 to September 2 2026, 8am to 6pm, for telecommunications.

Chesterton Road A1303, Cambridge: cycle lane suspended between no. 167 and Hamilton Road from September 28 to October 2 2026 for sewer repairs.

Beaufort Place to Riverside Walkway, Cambridge: pedestrian closure between La Mimosa and Magdalene Street from September 1 2026 to February 28 2027 for essential maintenance.

Newmarket Road A1134, Cambridge: cycle lane suspended between Ditton Walk and Cut Throat Lane from September 14 to September 16 2026 for gas connections.

Wimpole Road, Great Eversden: closed between no. 18 and High Street from September 7 to September 11 2026 for electrical service installation.

New Road, Over: closed between no. 44 and Glover Street on September 3 2026, 7.30am to 4.30pm, for section 278 works.

Granhams Road, Great Shelford: closed between Abberley Wood and Granhams Road, Cambridge from October 5 to November 1 2026 for mains laying.

Newmarket Road, Pampisford: night closures 8pm to 6am from September 19 to September 28 2026 for patching and resurfacing, with motorway and non-motorway diversions.

Westfield Lane, Cambridge: closed between Benson Street and Priory Street from September 8 to September 11 2026 for electrical link box works.

What drivers, cyclists and pedestrians need to know

Works will be undertaken on or near the highway, with restrictions active only while on-site signage is displayed. Diversion routes will be signposted; on strategic corridors these may use the A603, A10, A11, A14, A1301, A1303 and A1134, as specified by the council.
