Mandatory Renewal Requirements for Elderly Motorists
Motorists who are 70 years old or above are legally required to renew their driving licence every three years to remain compliant with road regulations. The DVLA strongly advises that this process be completed online, where it is typically free of charge and results in a new licence being issued within approximately one week.
However, there are specific exceptions to note: drivers operating C1 vehicles, which include medium-sized vehicles, and D1 vehicles, such as minibuses, must submit their renewal applications by post rather than using the online system.
