Life-Changing Injuries in Castle Bromwich Crash

A woman has sustained serious and potentially life-changing injuries following a dramatic two-car collision on Chester Road in Castle Bromwich, with emergency services conducting a complex rescue operation before rushing her to a major Birmingham trauma centre.

Emergency Services Mobilised for Evening Collision

The incident occurred shortly after 8pm on Thursday, January 15, near the Toby Jug pub in the Solihull borough. According to official reports, the collision involved an Audi S line and another vehicle, with emergency services indicating the cars appear to have collided head-on in the road.

Complex Rescue Operation Required

West Midlands Fire Service crews were called to the scene at 8.15pm and faced the challenging task of extracting the seriously injured woman from her vehicle. A fire service spokesman detailed their response, stating: "Two fire engines and a brigade response vehicle attended. The collision involved two cars, which had both come to rest on all four wheels. Our crews used Holmatro cutting equipment to free a woman trapped in one of the vehicles, who was thought to have sustained serious injuries."

The fire service remained at the incident until shortly after 10pm, highlighting the complexity of the rescue operation required to safely extract the injured driver from the wreckage.

Multiple Emergency Teams Respond

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they treated one woman for serious injuries before transporting her to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham's major trauma centre. Their response involved multiple specialist teams, with a spokesman explaining: "One ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor with a Critical Care paramedic and a HART paramedic attended the scene."

Paramedics also assessed a woman and a seven-year-old girl at the scene, both of whom were discharged following treatment. The ambulance service was alerted to the incident at 8.14pm, demonstrating the rapid emergency response to the serious collision.

Psychological Impact on Other Vehicle Occupants

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision has spoken about the traumatic impact on herself and her young daughter. She revealed: "My daughter is traumatised. She is having nightmares and won't get on a bus because they don't have seat belts. Her laptop got smashed to pieces, which she is heartbroken over."

She added that both she and her daughter are "covered head to toe in bruises" following the incident, which she described as beginning when "a car crashed into the side of me, which caused me and the other lady to go head on." The woman, who works for the NHS, confirmed she cannot currently work due to her injuries, stating: "It's just caused so much sadness and upset. But we are lucky to be alive."

Police Appeal for Witness Information

West Midlands Police have confirmed they are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. A police spokesman stated: "We were called to a two-vehicle collision on Chester Road, Castle Bromwich, shortly after 8pm on 15 January. A woman was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene."

All three emergency services have confirmed their reports indicate just two vehicles were involved in the collision. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting log number 4794 of 15 January.
