A serious collision involving two heavy goods vehicles has caused major disruption on a key Midlands motorway during the Wednesday evening rush hour.
Incident Details and Lane Closures
The crash occurred on the M42 southbound carriageway within junction one for Bromsgrove. Emergency services were called to the scene following the collision between the two lorries.
In response, lanes one and two of three, along with the southbound exit slip road at J1, have been closed to allow for recovery and investigation work. National Highways confirmed the closures are likely to remain in place for some time.
Severe Travel Disruption
The incident has triggered extensive tailbacks on the approach to the junction. Data from National Highways' NTIC systems indicates that drivers are facing delays of up to 80 minutes above their usual journey times.
Traffic officers are currently on site, working alongside specialist recovery contractors to clear the vehicles from the carriageway and reopen the lanes as soon as it is safe to do so.
Advice for Motorists
National Highways has warned drivers to expect significant disruption and to allow extra time for their journeys if travelling in the area. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes where possible while recovery operations continue.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the scene.
