Motorists are facing long delays on the M5 northbound this afternoon (Wednesday, August 19) following a crash that has closed the motorway between J7 and J6 in Worcestershire. Emergency crews are at the scene, and traffic is being held with delays of around 45 minutes currently expected.
Five-mile queues and emergency response
National Highways West Midlands reported that vehicles are backed up for approximately five miles. The agency shared news of the incident on social media platform X just after 3.30pm.
A spokesperson for National Highways West Midlands said: "M5 northbound J7-J6 traffic held due to a traffic collision. - Emergency services are on scene."
They added: "@WMerciaPolice - Delays in excess of 45 minutes with 5 miles of congestion."
