Dramatic images have emerged showing the mangled wreckage of a car following a serious crash on the M6 Toll, with the driver subsequently arrested by police.
Reckless Decision Leads to Severe Damage
The collision, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, February 6, 2026, left the vehicle - believed to be a Kia Sportage - extensively damaged. Despite the severity of the impact, the driver remarkably escaped without any physical injuries.
Police Response and Arrest
Staffordshire Police's Road Crime Team took to social media platform X at 2.12am to share photographs from the scene and provide details of the incident. In their statement, officers described the crash as "a self taught lesson in not drinking and driving" that occurred on the M6 Toll.
The police confirmed that the driver had been arrested following the incident. Their social media post emphasised the fortunate outcome, stating: "Luckily for them, they are uninjured and no-one else has been hurt or had their cars damaged by such reckless decisions!"
Narrow Escape for Other Road Users
Authorities reported that other motorists using the M6 Toll at the time had a fortunate escape, with no additional injuries reported and no other vehicles damaged in the incident. The crash serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of drink driving on major road networks.
The M6 Toll, which operates as a relief route for the heavily congested M6 motorway through the West Midlands, has seen various safety incidents over the years, though this particular crash highlights ongoing concerns about driver behaviour on Britain's road network.
