A major fire has broken out in the seaside town of Port Talbot, Wales, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and causing disruption on nearby roads.
Emergency Response
Emergency services were alerted earlier today to the incident on Dock Road, with police confirming they received multiple reports of a significant blaze. Fire crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene and working to bring the situation under control.
Witness Accounts
Witnesses described seeing large plumes of black smoke rising several metres into the air, spreading across the surrounding area and visible from as far away as Mumbles. Images from the town show the scale of the blaze, with smoke dominating the skyline.
Public Safety Advice
As a precaution, residents living nearby have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke. Officials have also urged people to avoid the area to allow emergency services clear access while crews continue tackling the fire.
Traffic Disruption
The incident is also impacting traffic, with slow-moving conditions reported on the M4 in both directions between Junction 41 at the A48 Pentyla-Baglan Road (Baglan/Pentyla) and Junction 40 at the A4107 Tanygroes Street. The delays are believed to be caused by smoke drifting across the carriageway, with drivers being urged to take care.
Authorities say the situation is ongoing and have asked for patience while emergency services deal with the blaze.
