After a period of warm and dry weather, the Midlands is expected to be hit by heavy rain this weekend, with Saturday July 25 and Sunday July 26 both likely to see significant precipitation, according to the Met Office.
Rain Band Moving South
A band of rain will arrive off Scotland's northwest coast early on Saturday and slowly track southwards. The Met Office forecast issued on Thursday July 23 stated: "Plenty of very warm sunshine on Friday, though some rain in the far northwest. Turning cooler over the weekend with some rain moving southeast across the UK. Breezy at times."
No weather warnings are currently in place, but the downpour could affect millions, potentially disrupting outdoor plans such as barbecues.
Regions Affected
The forecast indicates that eight regions will experience heavy rainfall: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Northwest England, Southwest England, Northeast England, Yorkshire and the Humber, the Midlands, and East Anglia and central England. London and the southeast will be spared the heaviest rain, though scattered showers are possible.
Rain will begin moving southeast from Northern Ireland and Scotland at 7am on Saturday, reaching northern England by 10am. By early afternoon, northwest England and north Wales will see rain, with Yorkshire affected later. Saturday night will be largely dry for England and Wales, but a new band of rain will move quickly into Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Sunday's Downpour
On Sunday, rain will spread from Scotland, covering swathes of Wales, northwest England, Yorkshire, and the Midlands by 7am. The southwest will see rain by 10am, and the heaviest coverage is expected around 1pm, with most of the country under clouds. Showers will ease for most by 10pm, but the heaviest downpours of the weekend are forecast for East Yorkshire near Hull, with 16-32mm of rain expected.
Temperatures will be relatively cool, with highs of 23°C on Saturday and 20°C on Sunday.
