Multiple road closures are in place in Smethwick this morning (Tuesday, 4 August) following a single vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 5am. West Midlands Police have confirmed that Oldbury Road has been shut, with closures also in effect at several key junctions in the area.
Road closures and diversions in place
The road is closed at Woodland Drive, Telford Way at Kenrick Way Island, Tollhouse Way at Rolfe Street, and the Fenton Street junction with St Pauls Road. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, as the road is expected to remain closed for an extended period.
Investigators are currently at the scene of the collision, and the police have stated that the investigation is in its very early stages. It is not yet clear whether anyone was seriously injured in the incident.
Police appeal for information
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Road closures are currently in place following a single vehicle collision on Oldbury Road, Smethwick, this morning (4 Aug) shortly before 5am. Oldbury Road at Woodland Drive, Telford Way at Kenrick Way Island, Tollhouse Way at Rolfe Street, Fenton Street junction with St Pauls Road are all currently closed. Our investigation is in the very early stages, but we would ask motorists to please avoid the area and make alternate travel routes as the road is expected to remain closed for some time."
Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 553 of 4 August. The road closures are expected to cause significant disruption to morning commuters, so drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.
