Dorset Council Launches Summer Road Safety Crackdown for Drivers and Bikers
Summer Road Safety Crackdown Launched by Dorset Council

Dorset Council has initiated a summer road safety campaign, calling on drivers and motorcyclists to exercise extra caution as the busy "biker season" gets underway. The local authority is urging all road users to slow down and stay alert during the peak summer months.

Summer Safety Reminder

The council has warned: "Stay alert, slow down: summer safety reminder for Dorset drivers and riders. With summer just around the corner, more motorcyclists will be out enjoying Dorset’s roads – especially along popular rural and coastal routes like the coast road around Chickerell and West Bay."

As the annual biker season begins, officials are reminding everyone to look out for one another. Extra warning signs have been installed on high-risk routes to raise awareness and encourage drivers and riders to adapt to road conditions.

Joint Effort for Safer Roads

This initiative is part of a collaborative effort between Dorset Council, Dorset Police, and other road safety partners aimed at reducing serious and life-changing injuries on the county's roads. Councillor Jon Andrews, Cabinet Member for Place Services at Dorset Council, stated: "As we move into the warmer months, we know that more people will be enjoying Dorset's roads on motorcycles. These warning signs are a simple but effective reminder for everyone to stay alert, slow down and look out for one another."

Mr Andrews emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility and that increased awareness during the right time of year can help prevent collisions and save lives.

Targeted Enforcement

In addition to the signage, police will carry out targeted enforcement throughout the summer. This will focus on speeding, dangerous overtaking, and reckless behavior by both drivers and motorcyclists. The campaign is part of a wider effort involving Dorset Council, Dorset Police, and local road safety groups working together to reduce severe injuries on the roads.

Drivers and riders are urged to take care, slow down, and contribute to making Dorset’s roads safer for everyone.
