Four fire appliances were dispatched to the area just before 1pm. Motorists have been advised to avoid the road where possible and to plan for delays.
Road closed and diversions in place
West Midlands Roads shared on X: "High Street, #PrincesEnd #Tipton. Road closed between junctions of Bradleys Lane and Upper Church Lane due to a fire. Expect delays. Plan your journey ahead."
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports: "A4037 High Street in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to fire services activity from B4163 Upper Church Lane to Short Street."
Bus services affected
A diversion is in operation for National Express West Midlands Bus 11 and 11A, which are being routed via Bradleys Lane, Brierley Lane, Batmans Road and Richards Road.
