West Midlands Police have launched an urgent witness appeal following a horrific multi-vehicle collision that claimed three lives on the M6 motorway near Birmingham. The devastating incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon between junctions 9 and 10, bringing traffic to a standstill during rush hour.
Emergency Response to Catastrophic Collision
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 3:15 PM following reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles. Tragically, despite the rapid response, three people were pronounced dead at the scene. The collision involved a Mercedes among other vehicles, though police have not yet released specific details about all vehicles involved.
Motorway Closure and Investigation
The M6 was completely closed in both directions between junctions 9 and 10 for several hours while emergency teams worked at the scene and collision investigators began their crucial work. The closure caused significant disruption to evening commuters, with lengthy diversions put in place around the Walsall and Wolverhampton areas.
Urgent Appeal for Witnesses
West Midlands Police are particularly keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or may have captured dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the incident. Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit emphasised the importance of public assistance.
"This is a tragic incident where three people have lost their lives," DS Hughes stated. "We are working to establish exactly what happened and would urge anyone with information, particularly dashcam footage, to come forward immediately."

Specialist family liaison officers have been assigned to support the families of those who tragically lost their lives. The police have also made arrangements for professional support for officers and emergency service personnel who attended the traumatic scene.
