Jet2 has confirmed that its customers will see no changes to their hand luggage allowance following an EU rule change on air fares and baggage allowances. The European Commission's announcement, due to take effect in 2027, aims to increase transparency around cabin baggage allowances across the airline industry.
Unlike some airlines that charge extra for hand luggage, Jet2 already includes a free 10kg hand luggage allowance as standard, along with a personal item. This gives travellers certainty about what is included from the moment they book, according to the company.
Jet2 CEO welcomes transparency move
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, stated: “For Jet2 customers, these new rules change nothing because we have always believed in doing the right thing by customers when it comes to hand luggage.” He added: “Holidaymakers should not have to pay extra or figure out complicated rules just to bring their essentials on board.”
Heapy emphasised the company's commitment to simplicity: “We have always believed in making things simple, transparent and fair, so customers know exactly what they're getting when they book.” He also welcomed the EU initiative: “We welcome any move that helps customers better understand what is included in the price of their flight and make informed decisions when comparing airlines.”
He concluded: “It is another example of why customers continue to choose Jet2 in record numbers – because they know exactly what they're getting when they book.”
Jet2 advises paper travel insurance copies
In a separate alert posted on X, Jet2 urged passengers heading abroad this summer to bring a “paper copy” of their travel insurance. The airline is experiencing one of its busiest seasons ever, with millions travelling to destinations such as Spain, Greece, and Portugal during the school holidays.
The post reads: “Heading away this summer? Take a paper copy of your travel insurance - it’s your back-up if you lose your phone abroad. It includes your policy number and your insurer’s 24/7 emergency contact, so you’re never stuck without help.”
The Government's Travel Aware website explains that having an appropriate travel insurance policy “provides protection and coverage for unexpected events that can happen on holiday”. This includes protection against natural disasters, medical emergencies, lost or stolen luggage, and cancellations or delays.
