Former military personnel can now access vital advice and welfare assistance much more quickly through a brand-new digital application system. This secure internet tool allows ex-service members, active troops, and their families to request guidance without any unnecessary delays.
The update removes the frustrating requirement to download or print out complicated physical documents. Instead, your information travels instantly to the dedicated support team, who will look after your application from start to finish. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) says completing the process takes just a few minutes if you have a few basic details ready to enter. They are your contact information, service or National Insurance number, and your date of birth.
Who can use the service?
The specialist team is available to assist a wide range of people within the wider military community. This includes regular and reserve service personnel, particularly those who are planning to return to civilian life within the next two years.
Support is also extended to regular and reserve veterans who have already finished their military careers. Furthermore, immediate family members of service leavers and veterans can access this help, including households currently dealing with a painful bereavement.
Types of assistance available
Welfare teams can offer guidance across a broad spectrum of personal and professional challenges. They provide assistance with mental health and wellbeing, alongside physical health and rehabilitation needs. Help is available for a range of issues, the MoD says: "Staff can also assist with drug and alcohol misuse, as well as finding training, education, and civilian employment. If you are struggling with housing, accommodation and relocation, or dealing with finance, debt, and benefits, they are ready to step in."
People going through a difficult family or relationship breakdown can find compassionate guidance through the service. They will also connect you directly with useful local, regional, and national supporting agencies. "Specialists can additionally support with applying for a War Pension and the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme. Finally, they offer clear advice on state benefits and help you fully understand your Armed Forces Pension Scheme entitlements."
What happens next?
Once submitted, your referral is sent directly to the MoD’s Veterans' Services Triage team. They will review the information and classify the need before arranging the most appropriate support, including contact from a case manager where needed," says the Ministry.

Existing referral routes, including downloadable forms, remain available. However, the new online form is the quickest and easiest option for most users. You can access the online form and find out more about Veterans' Services here.
