Rachel Reeves Confirms New Summer Cost-of-Living Payments Worth Hundreds
New Summer Cost-of-Living Payments Confirmed by Reeves

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has confirmed new summer cost-of-living payments that could provide hundreds of pounds to hard-up families. The emergency payments, launched by the Government, will be distributed by local councils through the newly established Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).

What is the Crisis and Resilience Fund?

The CRF is designed to assist those struggling most with bills and other living costs. It replaces the previous Household Support Fund (HSF). Importantly, individuals do not need to be claiming benefits to apply; eligibility is based on financial circumstances.

Who Can Apply?

Those in most urgent need, such as low-income parents, are likely to be prioritised. However, anyone worried about paying bills may be able to get help, so it is worth checking. Households can apply for payments from their local council, which will share details of the fund.

Individual authorities run their schemes independently and decide the value of cash grants. Birmingham Voluntary Service Council, on behalf of the city council, stated: "The Household Support Fund has now transitioned into the Crisis Resilience Fund. The enquiry and application process will remain the same as HSF."

Important Eligibility Criteria

If you or anyone in your household has received an HSF payment within the past 12 months, you will not be eligible, and your enquiry form will be rejected. However, if you are not currently receiving any support services, including Universal Credit, you may still be eligible for the Crisis Resilience Fund.

For those who submitted a successful enquiry since the current scheme opened on May 1, 2026, you have been added to a waiting list. A team member in your local area will contact you using the details provided within the next 6-8 weeks to complete your full application. Applicants are urged to be patient due to high demand.

Households are encouraged to check with their local council for specific application details and deadlines.
