Foreign Office Revises Travel Guidance for Four Nations Overnight

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued updated travel advice for four countries overnight, alerting UK tourists to heightened risks in certain regions. These changes come amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and the US, which are impacting travel safety and logistics.

Specific Country Updates and New Warnings

The FCDO adjusted its guidance for Nepal, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia in the early hours of Thursday, March 5, 2026. In Nepal, the update includes additional information on potential disruptions during the national election on March 5, extending to the period after polling day. This covers possible travel delays and visa issues due to the regional escalation.

For Bahrain, the FCDO has taken precautionary measures by temporarily withdrawing some staff and their dependents, although the Embassy remains operational. In Saudi Arabia, the advice now strongly recommends against all but essential travel to the Eastern Province and Riyadh Province. Additionally, the FCDO continues to advise against all travel within 10 kilometers of Saudi Arabia's border with Yemen.

In Lebanon, the guidance has been intensified, now advising against all travel or all but essential travel to all areas of the country. This update reflects an expanded scope due to the conflict affecting Lebanon, with increased warnings for certain regions.

Impact on Airline Operations and Regional Travel

Amid the ongoing war in Iran, major airlines are adjusting their services. Emirates and Etihad Airways are currently operating a limited number of flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Qatar Airways, based in Doha, has issued a statement confirming that its operations remain temporarily suspended due to the closure of Qatari airspace. However, the airline has announced a series of relief flights starting March 5 to assist stranded passengers.

These relief flights will include routes from Muscat to London Heathrow, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Rome, and Amsterdam, as well as a flight from Riyadh to Frankfurt. Passengers will be contacted directly if they are assigned seats on these services, providing crucial support during this turbulent period.

Travelers are urged to stay informed by regularly checking the FCDO's latest advice and planning accordingly to ensure their safety and minimize disruptions.
