Tamworth Tap Crowned UK's Best Pub for Historic Third Year
Tamworth Tap Named UK's Best Pub for Third Year

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has made history by awarding its prestigious title of the United Kingdom's best pub to The Tamworth Tap in Staffordshire for an unprecedented third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement marks the first time any establishment has secured a treble victory in the organisation's history, cementing the Market Street venue's status as a national treasure.

A Historic Hat-Trick for a Community Hub

Located just a short distance from Birmingham, The Tamworth Tap has once again triumphed over thousands of competitors across the country. The pub, which operates from a charming 16th-century shop premises, has been celebrated not only for its exceptional drinks offering but also for its profound commitment to community engagement and hosting special events.

What Makes This Pub Exceptional?

The secret to The Tamworth Tap's success lies in a combination of factors that create an unparalleled pub experience:

  • Outstanding Drinks Selection: The pub boasts an impressive array of eight cask beers sourced from both local and national breweries, alongside a carefully curated selection of ciders, gins, wines, and bottled beers.
  • Breathtaking Setting: The establishment's courtyard beer terrace offers patrons one of the most enviable views from any British pub, featuring the dramatic Norman turrets of Tamworth Castle.
  • Community Focus: Beyond serving drinks, The Tamworth Tap has built a reputation as a vital community hub, organising activities and events that bring people together.

Industry Challenges Amid Celebration

Despite this historic achievement, pub representatives have highlighted the significant challenges facing the hospitality sector. Andrea Briers, while celebrating owners George and Louise Greenaway as "trailblazers," emphasised that even award-winning pubs face severe pressures.

"Pubs are hanging over a cliff edge with grossly unfair business rates, spiralling high costs and hikes to Employer National Insurance contributions heavy burdens on already tired shoulders," Briers stated. She further criticised the government's lack of support in recent budgets, calling for urgent policy reversals to prevent further damage to the industry.

A Call to Support Local Pubs

Briers urged the public to actively support their local pubs, particularly during traditionally difficult trading periods like January. "I hope everybody can take the time to get out and support your local," she encouraged, highlighting how community patronage remains crucial for pubs' survival despite national recognition.

The Tamworth Tap continues to operate from its historic location at 29 Market Street, Tamworth, B79 7LR, serving as both a destination for quality drinks and a model of community-focused hospitality in challenging times for the industry.
