Asda Fuel Prices Slash Costs for Morrisons & Tesco Drivers
Asda's Cheap Fuel Beats Morrisons & Tesco

Motorists who regularly fill up at Morrisons, Sainsbury's, or Tesco could make significant annual savings by simply changing where they buy their petrol or diesel, new research reveals.

The Supermarket Fuel Price Champion

Rival supermarket giant Asda currently has the cheapest average fuel in the country, making it the go-to destination for cost-conscious drivers. The average price at an Asda pump is 131.7p per litre, with its lowest recorded price being 125.7p and its highest at 139.9p. This represents a substantial 14.2p difference per litre across its forecourts.

According to data from NimbleFins, the typical motorist spends an average of £1,052 per year on petrol and £1,257 per year on diesel. These figures are based on cars with average fuel economy and average annual mileage, which is typically higher for diesel vehicles.

How Much Can You Really Save?

Breaking down the cost per mile offers a clearer picture. Based on an average fuel efficiency of 36 mpg for petrol and 43 mpg for diesel, and the fuel prices from October 2025 (134.4 p/litre for petrol and 143.3 p/litre for diesel), the research found that a typical diesel car consumes £151 of fuel for every 1,000 miles travelled.

For a driver covering 10,000 miles per year, filling up at Asda would mean an annual petrol bill of around £1,700. However, motorists paying for more expensive fuel at other major supermarkets like Morrisons, Tesco, and Sainsbury's could be paying around £50 more each year. NimbleFins separately discovered that the petrol cost for a diesel car is £170 at Asda, making it 11 per cent less than the competition.

Tools and Truths for Smarter Refuelling

The RAC recommends that drivers use tools like the Fuel Finder feature in the free myRAC app to locate the best prices. All registered users, whether RAC members or not, can search for the cheapest fuel within a two, five, or ten-mile radius.

Addressing common concerns about fuel quality, Fuel Genie advised, "The myths surrounding supermarket fuel quality don’t stand up to scrutiny." They confirm that supermarket fuel meets strict UK standards and offers reliable performance, making the potential savings a smart choice without compromise.

So, for drivers of Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Tesco, the message is clear: a simple switch to Asda for your fuel could lead to direct and immediate savings on your annual motoring costs.
