Birmingham crash victim fundraiser tops £16,800 in tribute

A fundraiser launched to support the family of an international student who died after being struck by a car in Birmingham has raised more than £16,800.

Victim remembered as 'full of hope'

Anisha Chakraborty, 28, was an international student described as "full of hope and ambition." She worked part-time at the buffet chain Jimmy Spice's on Broad Street.

Police confirmed that Anisha, originally from India, suffered fatal injuries when she was hit by a black Audi RSQ8 on Dartmouth Middleway early on Saturday, May 30.

Arrest and bail

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He has since been released on bail.

Manager's tribute

Anisha's restaurant manager, Shefali Karulkar, described her as a "lovely" employee who was "full of hope and ambition for her future."

Ms Karulkar launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Anisha's family after the tragedy, which has now raised over £16,800.

She said: "Anisha worked hard to build a life for herself abroad and was deeply loved by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

"She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and the positivity she brought into the lives of those around her.

"This sudden loss has left her family devastated. They are now facing an incredibly difficult time emotionally and financially.

"We're raising funds to provide financial support to Anisha’s family during this period of grief and to help ease the burden of immediate and ongoing expenses.

"No contribution is too small, and every act of support makes a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others.
