Rush Green Resident and Care Home Manager to Run London Landmarks Half Marathon for Fifth Time

Nicolas Kee Mew, a 40-year-old resident of Rush Green and manager of a care home in Epping, is gearing up to participate in the London Landmarks Half Marathon once again. This will mark his fifth consecutive year running the event, all in support of Independent Age, a national charity dedicated to assisting older people facing financial hardship.

Inspired by Charity's Mission

Nicolas first learned about Independent Age during a previous half marathon and was deeply moved by their efforts to support vulnerable older individuals. "Independent Age is an incredible charity that provides vital support to older people, offering advice and assistance to help them maintain independence," he stated. "Working in a care home, I see firsthand how important these services are."

A Commitment to Community Service

Beyond his professional role and fundraising activities, Nicolas is actively involved in his community. He serves as a trustee of Enfield Age UK and is a candidate for the Havering Residents Association in St Albans. His dedication to social impact has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the British Citizen Award in 2022 for his inspirational positive influence on society and being a finalist for Social Campaigner of the Year at the 2024 MBCC Awards.

Nicolas expressed his passion for the cause: "I am very passionate about supporting older people in our communities, and Independent Age is a fantastic charity doing vital work to help older people live well and independently."

Fundraising Goals and Support

With a fundraising target of £500, Nicolas is calling on the public for support. "I am aiming to raise £500, and I would really appreciate your support. Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference," he shared. The staff and residents at his care home are fully behind his efforts, highlighting his commitment to making a difference for older people and the broader community.

About Independent Age

Independent Age is a national charity focused on combating poverty in later life. They provide essential services through a helpline and expert advisors, offering free, practical support to older individuals struggling financially. Additionally, their grants programme funds hundreds of local organizations across the UK that work directly with older people. The charity also uses insights from their support services and partnerships to advocate for policy changes addressing the issues faced by older people in poverty.

Joanna Elson CBE, chief executive of Independent Age, praised Nicolas's efforts: "Nicolas’ continued and consistent efforts have been a great contribution to our efforts to support older people in financial hardship. We won’t stop fighting to end poverty in later life and we couldn’t do this without committed fundraisers like Nicolas. Thank you so much and the best of luck from everyone at Independent Age."
