Chester Student Tackles Three Peaks Challenge for Cancer Charity
Chester Student Tackles Three Peaks for Cancer Charity

A University of Chester student is preparing to conquer the UK's three highest mountains within a single day to support a charity dedicated to groundbreaking cancer research and treatment. Queen Odozi, an international student from Nigeria, will take on the demanding Three Peaks Challenge with the goal of raising £1,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The Challenge

Starting on June 26, Queen will climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in Wales within 24 hours as part of a team effort. The challenge involves hiking 26 miles and ascending over 3,000 metres.

Personal Motivation

Queen, who is in her final year of a BA Business Finance degree at the University's Business School, shared her reasons for taking on the challenge. 'This challenge is a big step outside of my comfort zone, but it means so much to me,' she said. 'I'm doing it for people in my own life, for other families whose loved ones have been affected by cancer, and for those who may not have the means to access the care they need.'

She added: 'I'll be pushing myself physically and mentally — 26 miles of hiking and over 3,000 metres of climbing in just 24 hours. It's going to be tough, but it's nothing compared to what so many people go through every day. Raising £1,000 would make a real difference, in contributing to the vital work of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, supporting patients, research, and treatment. I'm so grateful for any support, whether that's donating or simply sharing my fundraiser.'

The Charity

The Royal Marsden was founded as the first hospital dedicated to studying and treating cancer and continues to make life-saving breakthroughs today. Amy Mullins, Associate Director of Public Fundraising at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, expressed gratitude: 'Thank you so much Queen Odozi for taking up this incredible challenge alongside your team. It is thanks to supporters like you that we are able to be there for everyone who needs us, raising money to save the lives of people affected by cancer. We ensure the world-leading nurses, doctors and research teams at The Royal Marsden can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world.'
