Deeside Paper Mill Makes Generous Donation to Children's Hospice
A major employer in the Deeside area has made a significant charitable contribution, donating £1,000 to a local children's hospice. Shotton Mill Limited, based in Flintshire, is nearing the completion of its new state-of-the-art paper manufacturing facility and has chosen to support Hope House Tŷ Gobaith as part of its community outreach efforts.
Expanding Operations and Community Support
The mill, which currently employs over 200 staff, is set to create an additional 220 new roles upon the opening of its new plant. To mark this expansion, the company's employees selected Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, a hospice that provides vital care and support to more than 700 children and families dealing with life-threatening conditions across North Wales, Cheshire, Powys, and Shropshire.
Presenting the cheque, Joanne Mandley, Head of Human Resources, and Dan Johnson, General Manager, expressed their enthusiasm for the donation. "We are delighted to be able to make this donation to such a wonderful cause," they said. "We have known about their valuable work for a long time, and as a family-focused business, we understand how crucial they are to the community. We hope to offer further support in the future through manpower and volunteering opportunities."
Hospice's Gratitude and Future Partnerships
On behalf of the hospice, fundraiser Nicola Eyes visited the mill to meet with Joanne and Dan, learn more about the company's initiatives, and accept the generous cheque. Nicola highlighted the impact of the donation, stating, "This is such a kind donation, and we are looking forward to a strong partnership in the future. £1,000 can provide so many precious memories, experiences, and respite for children and families facing the most difficult of times."
She added, "Our mission is to reach as many families as possible and help them create quality moments together. Thank you to Joanne, Dan, and everyone at Shotton Mill for selecting us – we are incredibly grateful."
This donation underscores the importance of corporate social responsibility in supporting local health and community services, particularly for vulnerable children and their families.
