Life-saving defibrillator installed outside Stockport carers charity
Defibrillator installed outside Stockport carers charity

A local charity is celebrating after a life-saving piece of equipment was installed outside its centre to help protect the community. Signpost for Carers, based at The Heatons Centre on Thornfield Road, now has its own outdoor defibrillator. Situated just a stone’s throw from Heatons Library and Thornfield Park, the piece of equipment can save someone’s life should they go into cardiac arrest.

The vital equipment was funded and installed by High Peak Comps, an online prize draw operator based in Dove Holes. Signpost for Carers provides support to youth and adult carers, and can now add peace of mind support to everyone in the community to their remit, in the knowledge that the defibrillator is now here. The donation came about after a High Peak Comps player nominated the charity during a free-to-enter competition to have a unit installed.

The new defibrillator can be found at The Heatons Centre, Thornfield Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport SK4 3LD. The prize draw company is owned by Charles Edwards.

Charles Edwards said: “This defibrillator is in a great location, at the site of a great charity. This is the 15th defibrillator we have paid for as a company, and as with every one, we hope it never has to be used. We are glad to know that the local residents now have a new defibrillator with 24/7 outdoor accessibility nearby. Thanks to everyone at Signpost for Carers for being so great to work with, we have donated to them as a company in the past before, and would love to do so again soon. They do amazing work.”

The equipment has been registered on The Circuit, and has a lock on it for security with a code accessible in an emergency. Bethan Kelly, from Signpost for Carers, said: “We are incredibly grateful to High Peak Comps for donating a defibrillator to Signpost for Carers. As a charity supporting thousands of unpaid carers and the wider community, having this equipment available at The Heatons Centre provides reassurance not only for our staff and volunteers, but for the many carers, families and community groups who walk through our doors each week. High Peak Comps bring fun and energy to everything they do, but behind that is a genuine commitment to creating safer, stronger communities and we cannot thank them enough.”

High Peak Comps, established in 2020, hosts online prize draws for cash and technology prizes. Giving back is at the core of what they do, with more than £200,000 in money or goods donated to charities, including the defibrillator project. The company is now determined to install 15 more defibrillators by the end of the year, with more potentially coming to Stockport. Sites in Offerton and Hazel Grove are already nominated for a potential unit.

The next defibrillator competition is being held at lunchtime on Friday, June 12, 2026, on the High Peak Comps Facebook page. To nominate a future possible Stockport location for the High Peak Comps defibrillator wheel, please contact sponsorship@highpeakcomps.co.uk.
