Diagrama Foundation Champions LGBTQ+ Adoption During New Family Social Week
Diagrama Backs LGBTQ+ Adoption in New Family Social Week

Diagrama Foundation has proudly announced its support for New Family Social's LGBTQ+ Week, which launched today on March 2. This initiative aims to celebrate diverse family structures and actively encourage more same-sex couples to consider fostering and adoption opportunities across the United Kingdom.

Theme Encourages Immediate Action

This year's theme, 'Now's the time', serves as a powerful call to action for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples who are potential applicants to begin their journey toward parenthood without delay. The campaign highlights the urgent need for loving homes, as approximately 100 children enter the UK care system each day.

The Diagrama fostering and adoption team works diligently to find safe, nurturing environments for children who have waited the longest for permanent placements. Their efforts are crucial in addressing the ongoing demand for stable family settings.

Personal Success Stories

Jason, who adopted a son with his partner Eric through Diagrama Adoption, shared his heartfelt experience. "Eric and I always dreamed of having children, but never really thought it was a possibility and assumed that the closest we would get was being uncles or godparents," he said.

"Like any family, we have our ups and downs, but the rewards of parenthood are priceless. We feel blessed that we have such an incredible son with whom we share so much joy, love and laughter. He is the centre of our universe, and we love being able to support and guide him as he grows and witness the progress he makes. He has made our lives complete."

Statistics and Support from Diagrama

Kate Patel, head of adoption and fostering at Diagrama, provided important context about adoption trends. "Approximately 20%, that's 1 in 5 of all adoptions in England are by same-sex couples," she stated. "At Diagrama, we welcome applications from same-sex couples and want to reassure them that love, commitment, and stability are what matter most to children in need of a home."

She emphasized that "there are no barriers to forming a family because you are in a same sex relationship." Diagrama Foundation operates both a not-for-profit fostering agency and a voluntary adoption agency, offering regular online information sessions for interested individuals.

Addressing Misconceptions

These sessions allow participants to learn about the fostering and adoption process, meet current adopters and fosterers, and have their questions answered directly. Kate addressed common concerns, saying, "We know there are myths and misconceptions about same-sex adoption or fostering, but the evidence shows children thrive in loving, supportive homes, whatever the parents' gender or sexual orientation."

She added that "New Family Social's LGBTQ+ Week is the perfect time to highlight the opportunities to foster or adopt and celebrate the families who are already making a difference."

Inclusive Application Process

Diagrama Adoption and Fostering maintains an inclusive approach, welcoming applications regardless of age, faith, sexuality, ethnicity or whether applicants are single or in a couple. Their free online information sessions serve as an excellent first step for anyone considering creating a family through adoption or fostering.

These resources provide valuable guidance and support for prospective parents navigating the initial stages of their journey toward expanding their families through these meaningful pathways.
