Former Welsh Guard Fights for Charity After Life-Changing Support
Ex-Guard Fights for Charity After Life-Changing Support

Daniel Rees, a former Welsh Guard from Swansea, is stepping into the ring to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, after the organisation supported him during a difficult period following military service.

Dan fought at the Welsh Combat Series on Saturday, May 23, at Cardiff Vale Sports Arena in Penarth. The event attracted a large audience both in person and online, with previous events generating more than 1.3 million views on Facebook. Dan has already raised over £800 towards his £1,000 target.

Dan served with the Welsh Guards for more than six years, including a tour of Afghanistan. After leaving the Forces in 2016, he experienced challenges adjusting to civilian life and later received support from SSAFA as he rebuilt his life. SSAFA helped Dan furnish and carpet his first flat after leaving the Army, something he says made a significant difference.

“SSAFA helped me during a difficult period in my life,” Dan said. “I’ll always be grateful for the support I received. I’ve come a long way since then and wanted to do something positive to give back to the charity while raising awareness for other veterans who might be struggling. It would make my year if we could hit the £1,000 target.”

As part of the fundraiser, Dan has donated £5 from every job completed through his business, Haniels Electrical, helping push the total closer to its target. To support Dan’s fundraiser, visit his JustGiving page. To watch the event online, visit Welsh Combat Series on Facebook.

SSAFA has been helping the Armed Forces community – regulars and reserves, serving or retired, and their families – since 1885. To volunteer or fundraise for SSAFA, or to seek support, visit the SSAFA website and search for “SSAFA near me”.
