A cherished Essex charity is preparing to host a very special gathering for the families it has supported over a quarter of a century. TLC Essex is inviting families from across the county to a free Teddy Bear Picnic on Sunday, 8 March 2026, an event designed to celebrate 25 years of providing comfort to young patients and to mark the presentation of its four-millionth teddy bear.
A Quarter-Century of Comforting Children
The picnic is specifically for children and families who have previously received a TLC, or 'Teddies for Loving Care', bear. Founded and supported by Essex Freemasons, the charity launched in the county in 2001. Its mission is simple yet profound: to offer reassurance to children facing anxiety, pain, or uncertainty in A&E departments and paediatric wards through the gift of a soft teddy bear. Over 25 years, millions of bears have been distributed, each creating its own unique story of comfort during a difficult moment.
A Day for Sharing Stories and Creating Memories
The anniversary event in Southend-on-Sea has been crafted to offer a relaxed and fun day out for these families. It also provides a chance to reflect on how small acts of kindness can make a significant difference. As part of the celebrations, attendees are warmly invited to share their personal TLC story, should they wish to do so.
