Funeral of Brave Eight-Year-Old Amelia Kolpa to Be Held in Birmingham Today
The funeral of eight-year-old Amelia Kolpa is scheduled to take place in Birmingham today, with a significant turnout anticipated for the Black Country girl who won the hearts of people across the region and beyond during her courageous fight against cancer.
A Heartfelt Battle and Global Support
Amelia Kolpa from Rowley Regis had been battling stage four neuroblastoma since she was two years old and tragically passed away at the age of eight on Tuesday, March 17. To celebrate her eighth birthday on March 3, while she was receiving palliative care, a simple appeal for birthday cards led to an overwhelming response, with over 250,000 cards received, far surpassing the initial target of 8,000 and capturing widespread admiration.
Funeral Details and Community Tribute
Matt Lemm, who organized the collection and delivery of more than 60,000 birthday cards from around the world for Amelia, announced via a social media video this week that her funeral would be held on April 1, a day earlier than originally planned. In the video, Mr. Lemm, owner of Lockside Steakhouse in Stourbridge, remarked, "The date for the funeral has been changed. Forever smiling, forever joking, and forever tricking, it's now April Fool’s Day. What more of a fitting day for that little prankster, that little bundle of joy that we called Amelia?"
The funeral will commence at 1:30 PM on April 1 at Waseley Hills Crematorium. Amelia's family has requested that attendees wear bright colors instead of black to honor her vibrant spirit. Close friends and family will be inside the chapel, with the public asked to remain outside during the service. Additionally, a funeral convoy featuring motorbikes and other vehicles is planned, starting at Lockside Steakhouse at 12 PM, proceeding to Amelia's house at 1 PM, and then heading to the crematorium on New Inns Lane, Rubery.
This event serves as a poignant tribute to a young girl whose bravery and story inspired countless individuals, highlighting the profound impact of community support during difficult times.
