Golf Captain Raises £6,795 for Hospice with Shaved-Head Show

Accrington Golf Club is celebrating the extraordinary fundraising efforts of its Lady Vice Captain, Charlotte Wright, who has generated an impressive £6,795 for Pendleside Hospice through a deeply personal and courageous charity challenge.

A Journey of Determination and Sacrifice

Charlotte embarked on her fundraising mission in November 2025 while serving as Lady Captain, initially aiming to raise £3,000. Demonstrating remarkable commitment, she pledged that upon reaching the halfway point of her target, she would shave off her long hair—a promise she fulfilled with unwavering resolve.

An Unforgettable Stage Moment

The most poignant chapter of her campaign unfolded on January 30, 2026, at the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce Great Chamber Sing Off, hosted at Burnley Mechanics Theatre. Performing before an audience of over 250 people, Charlotte took to the stage as Sinéad O’Connor, delivering a powerful and emotional rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U”.

With her head completely shaved, her performance blended bravery with vulnerability, creating a profoundly moving spectacle that resonated deeply with everyone present. This act was not merely for show; Charlotte has generously donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that creates real-hair wigs for children and young adults who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other medical conditions.

Balancing Leadership with Charity Work

What makes Charlotte’s accomplishment particularly noteworthy is that she undertook this demanding fundraising challenge while fulfilling her full responsibilities as Lady Captain throughout 2025. Her year in office involved supporting competitions, representing the Ladies’ Section, attending numerous club events, and dedicating considerable time and energy to the golf club—all while spearheading a major charity initiative for the benefit of the wider community.

Exceeding Expectations Through Community Support

Thanks to Charlotte’s steadfast dedication and the overwhelming generosity of her supporters, she more than doubled her original fundraising target, amassing £6,795. The event itself raised over £19,000 for various local charities across East Lancashire, amplifying the positive impact across the region.

Charlotte has expressed heartfelt gratitude to all Accrington Golf Club members, along with her friends and family, whose encouragement and contributions supported her throughout this journey. Their collective backing exemplifies the strong community spirit that lies at the heart of the club.

Supporting Vital Hospice Care

Pendleside Hospice provides essential care, compassion, and dignity to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The club is immensely proud that Charlotte’s efforts will directly support this vital work within the local community, ensuring that her fundraising extends its benefit far beyond the stage.

Charlotte’s fundraising journey stands as a true testament to her hard work, leadership, and selfless dedication to others—values that Accrington Golf Club is proud to celebrate and uphold.
