Hindhead Students Raise £1,000 for Children's Hospice

Students at a school in Hindhead have raised £1,000 for a charity that supports children and young people with complex medical needs. The student leadership team at OneSchool Global (OSG) Hindhead Campus organized a series of fundraising initiatives to generate funds for Naomi and Jack’s (formerly known as Naomi House and Jacksplace), an independent charity that provides expert hospice care and support for children, young adults, and their families.

Over the last two terms, the group worked to organize events and initiatives, including cake sales and a market, which helped raise £1,000 to be donated to the hospice. Naomi and Jack’s supports more than 600 families in central southern England, offering a home-from-home for children and young adults. The charity provides specialist nursing, care, play, and family support for those with some of the most complex medical needs. The hospice is always available for end-of-life care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The charity also offers essential specialist short breaks, allowing families to rest and recharge in a safe and welcoming environment.

Jackie Benn, a representative from Naomi and Jack’s, visited the school to receive the donation cheque from the student leadership team and spoke to students during an assembly about the impact of the charity’s work.

Megan, a student involved in the fundraising at OneSchool Global Hindhead, said: “We were extremely grateful for Jackie Benn from Naomi and Jack’s for giving up her time to present a very eye-opening and enlightening assembly to our whole school. She highlighted the amazing and life-changing work they provide for families and children who suffer life-limiting disabilities. As a school, we raised £1,000 to donate to this wonderful charity! We are very proud to be working with charities who care for those less fortunate than ourselves.”

Jackie Benn commented: “It was a real pleasure to visit OSG Hindhead, meet the team and thank the students for their hard work. We are very grateful to everyone involved for their efforts. Support like this is vital to help us continue to be there for hundreds of families from across the south of England when they need us most. Donations like this help to create lasting memories and enable families to spend precious time together.”

OSG has a network of 23 campuses across the UK which provide an innovative learning and teaching programme to more than 3,500 students, focused on teaching students how to learn.

Liam Rowland, acting campus principal at OSG Hindhead, added: “The project has helped our student leaders develop key skills including teamwork, organisation, communication and leadership, while also strengthening their understanding of social responsibility and community engagement. We are extremely proud of their commitment, responsibility, care and compassion demonstrated throughout the process.”
