Hospice Seeks Volunteers for New Fundraising Committees

Moya Cole Hospice Expands Volunteer Fundraising Network

The Fundraising Team at Moya Cole Hospice has announced an exciting new initiative to recruit members for three brand-new volunteer fundraising committees. These committees will be strategically located in Didsbury and Chorlton, the Heatons and Reddish, and Marple and Romiley. This expansion builds directly upon the remarkable success of their already established committees in Heald Green, Altrincham, and Little Hulton.

A Direct Impact on Patient Care

Samantha Lanigan, Community Fundraiser for Moya Cole Hospice, emphasized the profound opportunity these roles present. “Being a part of one of our volunteer fundraising committees is a unique opportunity as you can directly help patients and families in our care through the organisation of various events to raise funds for the hospice,” she said.

“Committee members from Heald Green, Altrincham, and Little Hulton have done such an incredible job fundraising for the hospice. It’s lovely to see their passion and love of the hospice develop through their volunteer work.”

How the Committees Operate

The volunteer committees typically convene once a month to brainstorm and plan diverse fundraising activities. For instance, the Altrincham committee traditionally organizes one major annual event alongside two smaller functions. Their highly successful Frocks and Fizz event last year alone generated over £7,000 for the hospice's vital services.

Volunteer Testimonials Highlight Rewarding Experience

Gwyneth Roper, a dedicated member of the Altrincham committee for approximately 18 months, described the Frocks and Fizz success as her proudest moment. “It was such a joy... meeting the other people through the committee and being able to share that with them,” she reflected.

“I get a lot out of being a part of the committee, and a lot of that is down to the people I’ve met. I used to work at the hospice, and now I’ve got involved in fundraising. I know the difference fundraising makes to the patients.”

Rekha Senapati, a volunteer with Moya Cole Hospice for an impressive 15 years who later joined the Little Hulton committee, highlighted the personal growth involved. “Being a part of the committee has allowed me to learn more about new ideas, views and thoughts which I have found very interesting.”

For Lynn Partridge, a member of the Heald Green committee, the motivation is deeply personal, stemming from the exceptional care her father and aunt received. “The hospice gives such comfort, dignity and kindness to people and I wanted to do something that helped towards making sure other families can experience this,” she explained.

“I really look forward to coming together as a group and working together. I've got a lot of friendship from the group. We have a lot in common because most of us have had a family member in the hospice, so there's a lot of shared experiences.”
