Ten Hospices Join Forces for Yorkshire Three Peaks Mega Event to Boost Local Care
In a remarkable show of unity, ten hospices across Lancashire and South Cumbria are teaming up to host the Yorkshire Three Peaks Mega Event, scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026. This collaborative effort aims to raise crucial funds for hospice services in the region, offering participants an unforgettable challenge amidst stunning landscapes.
A Collective Mission for Compassionate Care
The participating hospices include East Lancashire Hospice, Pendleside Hospice, Derian House Children’s Hospice, St Mary’s Hospice, Trinity and Brian House Hospice, Queenscourt Hospice, St Catherine’s Hospice, St John’s Hospice, and Rossendale Hospice. Together, they share a single goal: to enhance financial support for hospice care that benefits local communities. By pooling their resources, these organisations hope to create a larger impact than they could achieve individually.
Challenge Details and Early Bird Incentives
Participants will embark on a demanding trek across the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks: Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. The route spans 24 miles with an ascent of 5,200 feet, promising breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment. To encourage early sign-ups, each hospice is offering an exclusive £30 early bird discount for the first 30 registrants. After this initial period, the price will rise to £45. All participants are expected to raise individual sponsorship to maximise the funds generated for their chosen hospice.
Corporate Sponsorship and Community Connections
The event is proudly sponsored by SPAR, through its association with James Hall and Co. Ltd, the primary retailer, wholesaler, and distributor for the North of England. This support is vital, as it ensures that a greater portion of the funds can be directed directly towards patient and family care. Philippa Harrington, marketing manager for James Hall and Co. Ltd, emphasised the strong community ties, noting that SPAR stores are often located near the hospices, making this sponsorship a natural fit for raising awareness and funds.
Inspiration and Goals Behind the Initiative
This initiative was inspired by the hospices' partnership as charity beneficiaries of the Lancashire Business View Red Rose Awards 2025. Instead of dividing a £500 donation among themselves, the hospices decided to launch this collaborative event to achieve a more significant impact. The target is to raise £60,000, which will support patients and families across Lancashire and South Cumbria. Howerd Booth, spokesperson for the hospice collaboration, highlighted the power of unity in providing compassionate care when it is needed most.
Voices from the Hospices
Michelle Tiffin, fundraising manager at Rossendale Hospice, expressed pride in the regional collaboration, stating that it demonstrates the strength of the hospices working together. She noted that the event will not only raise funds but also increase awareness of the specialist care that communities rely on. The hospices are grateful for the support from participants and sponsors alike, as they strive to make a real difference in people's lives.
