Human Appeal Celebrates Decade of Winter Wrap Up with Record-Breaking Donations

Human Appeal, a leading UK humanitarian charity, has marked the 10th anniversary of its Winter Wrap Up campaign with unprecedented success. The initiative, which collects and distributes essential winter clothing, achieved a remarkable 62% increase in donations compared to the previous year.

Surge in Contributions and Distribution

This year's campaign gathered over 41,000 winter clothing items, including more than 10,500 coats. This represents a substantial rise of 25,500 items from last year's efforts. The donations have been distributed across 15 UK cities, providing crucial support to people experiencing homelessness, refugees, asylum seekers, survivors of domestic abuse, and children facing hardship.

Corporate and Community Partnerships Drive Growth

Launched in 2015, Winter Wrap Up collaborates with various organisations to facilitate donations and distribution. Key partners include SafeStore, Hands On London, Network Rail, and Bag2Charity. This year, major contributors such as Netflix, Network Rail, Barclays, Lloyds, RSM Consultancy, and the University of Manchester Staff Association played pivotal roles in advancing the campaign.

Their involvement resulted in over 200 bales of clothing and £35,000 in in-kind donations, a significant 133% increase from £15,000 last year. Notably, Birmingham's Worth the Weight Factory Shop emerged as the campaign's largest donor, contributing 160 bales alone. Lloyds also made a substantial impact, collecting more than 200 coats across 10 branches in Birmingham.

Overcoming Challenges with Dedication

Despite facing logistical hurdles, including limited staffing, vehicles, and storage capacity to handle the unprecedented volume of donations, the campaign was successfully executed. This achievement was made possible through the unwavering dedication of the Human Appeal team and a diverse group of volunteers.

Reflections and Future Aspirations

Ahmed Osman, UK programmes co-ordinator at Human Appeal, expressed his gratitude and optimism. "Reaching these milestones with record-breaking donations 10 years on from launching our Winter Wrap Up initiative is a powerful reminder of what communities can achieve when they come together," he said.

"At a time when many are still facing financial hardship, these contributions will help thousands stay warm, safe, and supported through the winter months. We're incredibly grateful to our partners, volunteers, and donors. We're also excited to build on this momentum to grow Wrap Up even further in the years ahead."
