A dedicated trio of local students from Kent successfully scrubbed a huge stretch of the East Kent shoreline over the weekend. The young volunteers filled 12 rubbish bags to beautify the coast and raised £652 to fund a life-changing expedition abroad.
Beach Clean-Up Efforts
Molly, Claudia, and Iolanthe hit the beaches on Sunday, June 7, for a sponsored clean-up along the busy coastline between Dover and Folkestone. Stepping out to mark World Environment Day, the community-minded trio spent the day clearing away plastic pollution, abandoned packaging, and seasonal litter. Their hard work will help protect local marine wildlife and ensure the cliffs are pristine for summer visitors.
Fundraising for Costa Rica Expedition
All sponsorship money raised from their coastal sweep is going directly toward funding a major school expedition to Costa Rica in 2027. The trip is being organized alongside volunteer specialists Camps International. Once in Central America, the students will embed with local communities to build vital infrastructure, including fresh water systems and educational facilities. They will also work on major conservation projects to safeguard native rainforest habitats.
Community Support and Gratitude
The girls expressed their huge gratitude to all the local residents, walkers, and businesses who cheered them on along the route or contributed to their fundraising pots. Thanks to their weekend efforts, the East Kent coast is looking significantly smarter. The trio are now one giant leap closer to making their global volunteer goals a reality.
