A devoted mother from Hertfordshire is set to take on a major capital race to express her gratitude to the specialist doctors who treated her young daughter. Zoe Christou, along with her husband and sister, will participate in a closed-road event through central London to support Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
Family's Motivation
The family wanted to give back to the medical team after receiving life-changing support during their most difficult moments. Zoe's daughter, Arianna, began suffering from unexplained seizures when she was just 13 months old. At her worst, the youngster endured up to 20 seizures every day for weeks on end.
Emergency Treatment and Diagnosis
The frightening health scare led to the family being rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors launched an extensive investigation into her symptoms during several prolonged stays on the wards. Medical experts eventually diagnosed Arianna with a rare genetic condition called PCDH19-related epilepsy. The specialist team continues to guide the family as they learn to manage the long-term brain disorder.
The Running Challenge
The upcoming running challenge will take the family past some of London's most famous landmarks, including Big Ben and the London Eye. They have already raised more than £1,500 for the dedicated children's charity. The popular summer race has completely sold out for this year.
Fundraising Impact
The family hopes their fundraising efforts will provide a vital lifeline for other parents dealing with serious childhood illnesses. Zoe Christou, mum, said: "This isn't just a run, it's my way of saying thank you to the incredible team at GOSH who cared for our daughter and to everyone supporting us. You're helping give hope to families when they need it most."
She added: "When your child is unwell, your whole world narrows to one thing: getting them the best possible care. GOSH has been there for Arianna during one of the hardest times our family has ever faced. This run is our way of giving something back. Every mile we run is for Arianna, and every donation will help GOSH continue their life-changing work for her and for so many other children and families who need them."
