Jerry Green Dog Rescue Opens New Charity Shop in Lincoln's Birchwood
New Jerry Green Dog Rescue Charity Shop Opens in Lincoln

Jerry Green Dog Rescue, a long-standing animal rescue organisation, is opening its newest charity shop in Lincoln to raise funds for abandoned dogs. The grand opening will take place on Monday, August 24, at 10am, at Unit 2 Birchwood Centre, Jasmine Road, Birchwood, Lincoln, LN6 0QB.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Led by Local Figure

The opening ceremony will feature a ribbon-cutting led by Gregory Hughes, independent chair of the Birchwood Pride in Place Board. Hughes has spent 35 years teaching on the estate, including 21 years as a headteacher, giving him a strong connection to local families. His involvement comes as the area benefits from long-term investment under the government's Pride in Place Programme, which aims to build stronger communities.

Attendees will be able to explore the store, meet the rescue team, and enjoy special opening day treats with their pets. The rescue mascot will be present, and visitors can receive free balloons and complimentary puppaccinos for their dogs.

Fundraising for Rescue Dogs

Proceeds from store sales will directly support the care and rehoming of rescue dogs across the region. The organisation has been rehoming animals since opening its founding Lincolnshire centre in 1961. The new branch on Jasmine Road brings the charity's retail network to 11 shops across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

The store is actively seeking local volunteers to help sort donations, stock shelves, and assist customers. It provides a new space for sustainable shopping, donating items, and volunteering for a good cause.

Community Leaders Express Support

Gregory Hughes said: “Having worked in Birchwood for 35 years, I’ve seen first-hand the strength of this community and the pride local people have in the area. It’s fantastic to see Jerry Green Dog Rescue choosing Birchwood as the home of its newest charity shop and creating another opportunity for people to come together, volunteer and support a cause that makes such a positive difference.” He added: “The ambitions of Pride in Place are very much about helping Birchwood to thrive, and ensuring local people are at the heart of its future. I’m delighting to be opening the new shop and welcoming Jerry Green Dog Rescue into the Birchwood community, and I hope local residents will really get behind it.”

Lynne McMahon, Head of Retail at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “Birchwood has a fantastic community spirit, and we can’t wait to become part of it and celebrate with local people on opening day. It feels particularly fitting to welcome Gregory to officially open the shop given his incredible longstanding connection to Birchwood and the ambitions of Pride in Place to help the community shape its future.” She continued: “Charity shops can play an important role in thriving communities. As well as raising vital funds for dogs in need, our Birchwood shop will provide somewhere for people to volunteer, donate, shop sustainably and connect with our work.” She concluded: “Since Jerry Green himself established our Broughton centre in 1961, the whole county has shown incredible support for our work. We’re excited to bring Jerry Green Dog Rescue to another Lincoln community and hope the shop will become a valued part of Birchwood for many years to come.”
