A group of mischievous North Walians will be ‘locked up’ for a light-hearted fundraiser this September. The mock ‘inmates’ will be ‘charged’ with a series of tongue-in-cheek ‘crimes’ as part of St David’s Hospice’s Jail and Bail event, taking place on Llandudno’s Big Wheel on Friday, September 4.
Each participant must raise at least £999 in ‘bail’ to secure their release, with all funds going towards vital hospice care. The event will begin at the hospice’s Abbey Road site in Llandudno, where the ‘inmates’ will be loaded onto the town’s land train to start their journey and enter their ‘cells’. Throughout the day, they will be put through their paces with gruelling prison yard exercises on the pier.
The ‘inmates’ will also take to the town centre in costume, engaging passers-by and collecting donations for St David’s Hospice. A spokesperson for the hospice said: “We are appealing to our supporters to nominate their friends, colleagues, bosses or partners for any tongue-in-cheek ‘crimes’ they have committed! It could be a dad who tells bad jokes, a boss that schedules meetings at the end of the day, or a colleague who nabs all the good biscuits – we guarantee whatever their crime, lots of fun will be had doing their time!”
St David’s Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people across the community living with life-limiting conditions. Funds raised from Jail and Bail help the charity continue to deliver these essential services.
Supporters can nominate an ‘inmate’ – or themselves – by visiting www.stdavidshospice.org.uk/jailbail or by calling the fundraising team on 01492 879058. Images and updates from the event will be shared on the charity’s social media platforms and by participants.
