Parents Raise Over £6,000 After Son's Burns Injury

Grateful parents Paige and Jamie Whyatt have raised more than £6,000 for two vital charities after their son suffered a devastating burns injury. Their 23-month-old son, Vinnie, was seriously injured in April 2025, prompting immediate life-saving care from the Wales Air Ambulance and subsequent treatment at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Fundraising Efforts

The couple organized a charity event at The Welfare in Ebbw Vale, featuring live music by Rebecca Woodward and a large raffle, and also completed the Great Bristol Run 10k. So far, they have raised £6,071, with proceeds split equally between the Wales Air Ambulance and The Children's Burns Trust.

Paige Whyatt said: "In April 2025, our son Vinnie suffered a devastating burns injury. The Wales Air Ambulance provided immediate, life-saving care at the scene and traveled with him until his care was handed over to Bristol Children's Hospital. This year, we wanted to give back to the two charities that were our lifeline."

Continued Support

The family previously raised funds for Daisy Ward at Bristol Children's Hospital after Vinnie spent 51 days there. Paige added: "Over a year later, Vinnie remains a happy, fun-loving boy. He loves being a typical boisterous boy, exploring and playing outside." Vinnie's sister Connie and her football team will climb Pen y Fan as an additional fundraiser.

Wales Air Ambulance

The Wales Air Ambulance is a consultant-led service that delivers hospital-standard care at the scene and transfers patients to appropriate hospitals. It relies on public donations to raise £13 million annually. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) provides highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners on board.

Paige expressed gratitude: "We will forever be thankful to the Wales Air Ambulance doctors and crew. Their life-saving care is invaluable. We hope our funds help them continue to be there for families in need."

Phae Jones, Director of Income Generation at the charity, said: "Thank you to Paige and Jamie for raising funds for causes close to their hearts. It's humbling that despite their experience, they wanted to give back. Fundraisers like these ensure the Wales Air Ambulance can continue saving lives across Wales."
