Paul Chuckle MBE to Visit Birmingham for Marie Curie's 'Thank You' Tour
Paul Chuckle MBE, the beloved entertainer and ambassador for Marie Curie, is set to visit Birmingham city centre as part of a special 'Thank You' tour across the United Kingdom. This tour celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Great Daffodil Appeal, the flagship annual fundraiser for Marie Curie, the UK's leading end of life charity.
Tour Details and Birmingham Stop
From March 3rd to 11th, Paul will travel from John O'Groats to Land's End, making stops to engage with fans, supporters, and staff of Marie Curie. In Birmingham, he will be at Victoria Square on Friday, March 6th, from 12pm to 4pm. During this event, attendees can meet Paul, take photos with the 'Daff bike'—a Marie Curie-branded 'Chuckle bike'—and make donations in person.
The tour aims to raise £40,000 for the Great Daffodil Appeal, which funds expert end of life care for people with terminal illnesses and their families. Paul's involvement is deeply personal; he and his brother Barry became official Marie Curie ambassadors in 2016, and Paul has remained an active supporter after Barry received care from the charity at the end of his life in 2018.
Paul Chuckle's Personal Connection and Message
In a statement, Paul Chuckle MBE expressed his pride in being a Marie Curie ambassador, highlighting the charity's significance to him. "Marie Curie helped care for my brother Barry at the end of his life in 2018, so it's a charity very close to my heart," he said. "When you think about it, there's only one chance to give someone the best possible end of life. That's why the Great Daffodil Appeal is so important. Every penny raised will help Marie Curie provide expert end of life care and support."
Paul added that he is excited to travel the iconic route with the 'Daff bike', meet supporters, and express gratitude. "I'm really excited to get to travel the route with the 'Daff bike', raise lots of money for the charity and meet as many Marie Curie supporters, volunteers and staff as possible to say a huge thank you – from me to you!"
Importance of the Great Daffodil Appeal
The Great Daffodil Appeal, now in its 40th year, encourages the public to wear a daffodil pin and donate to raise crucial funds. Matthew Reed, Chief Executive Officer at Marie Curie, emphasized the urgency of this cause. "Every three minutes, someone dies without the end of life care they need. The Great Daffodil Appeal gives Marie Curie the chance to provide expert end of life care and support to more people, whatever their illness. Care that protects someone's dignity – instead of leaving them alone or in avoidable pain."
He extended thanks to Paul for undertaking the tour and to supporters for their decades of loyalty. In addition to the Birmingham event, people can contribute by donating online through Marie Curie's fundraising page.
