A South Wales community charity that supplies free pet food to human foodbanks and operates a low-cost pop-up shop has launched an urgent fundraising appeal following the collapse of a major grant. The organisation must raise £122,000 within four weeks to secure a permanent warehouse and maintain its essential services, which help keep people and their pets together during the cost-of-living crisis.

The charity distributes free pet food to 34 human foodbanks across South Wales, enabling families to avoid the heartbreaking choice between feeding themselves and their animals. Since its inception in 2018, it has delivered over 370,000 pet meals and diverted more than 14 tonnes of food from landfill. Additionally, its community pop-up shop sells donated pet accessories like leads, collars, and harnesses for just £1, along with clothing priced from 20p to £3, offering crucial support to households on tight budgets.

Rising rents and unpredictable grant funding have left the charity without a stable home. Although £250,000 has been secured toward a permanent facility, a well-known grantor withdrew support after a seven-month application process, creating a £122,000 shortfall. The charity now faces a critical deadline: if it cannot raise the funds within four weeks, it will lose the opportunity to rent the necessary warehouse, halting food deliveries and pop-up shop operations. The annual rent for the required space is £35,000.
