The spirit of Christmas filled St Mary's Church in Rawtenstall as over 300 people gathered for a heartwarming evening of festive music. The event, organised by Rossendale Rotary, saw the community unite in song on Friday, December 19, 2025, raising crucial funds for local causes.
A Community in Song
The historic church echoed with the joyful sounds of classic carols, including 'While Shepherds Watched' and 'The Holly and the Ivy'. The audience, joined by the Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Michelle Smith, participated enthusiastically, creating a truly communal atmosphere. The musical backbone of the evening was provided by the talented Rossendale Male Voice Choir and the Rossendale Ladies Choir.
Under the skilled direction of conductors Matthew Thomas and Charles Crowley, and with superb accompaniment, the choirs delivered a performance that was both moving and uplifting. Their efforts were central to making the event a resounding success.
Volunteers Fuel the Festive Spirit
During the interval, a team of dedicated volunteers from St Mary's Church worked tirelessly to provide refreshments. Their hard work in serving drinks and biscuits to everyone added a warm, welcoming touch to the proceedings, ensuring the comfort of all attendees.
Support Extends Beyond the Church Walls
The true impact of the concert lies in its charitable outcome. The generosity of those who attended, through their donations and support, will directly benefit three local food banks. This vital funding will help support individuals and families in the Rossendale area during the winter months and beyond.
To continue their impactful community work, Rossendale Rotary is actively seeking new members and helpers. The club invites anyone interested in using their time and talents to improve lives locally and internationally to come forward.
Those wishing to get involved can contact Secretary Arnold Sampson on 07973 310237. The event stands as a powerful example of how community spirit, festive cheer, and charitable action can combine to make a real difference.
