Rossendale Rotary's Festive Drive: Santa Sleigh, Tesco Collections & Carol Concert
Rossendale Rotary's Christmas Community Drive

The festive season is a period of intense activity for Rossendale Rotary, as the group mobilises to raise vital funds and spread Christmas cheer throughout the local community. Their annual efforts combine beloved traditions with crucial fundraising for local causes, including essential support for food banks.

Santa's Sleigh Brings Joy to All Ages

One of the most visible signs of the Rotary's work is Santa's sleigh, which tours various districts of Rossendale. The operation is a significant undertaking for Santa and his dedicated team of elves, who are local Explorer Scouts. The initiative is designed not just to collect donations but to create magical moments for children who get the chance to see and chat with Father Christmas himself.

The joy, however, is not confined to the young. This year, the sleigh welcomed a delighted 91-year-old lady who came out specially to see Santa. She was reportedly thrilled by the visit, having been too unwell to attend the previous year. The Rotary club expressed a heartfelt hope to see her again next Christmas, highlighting the event's intergenerational appeal.

Community Engagement at Tesco Haslingden

Alongside the sleigh tours, the Rotary has been conducting its traditional collection at the Tesco superstore in Haslingden. Members are deeply grateful for this opportunity, which allows them to connect directly with residents. These sessions are a chance to discuss the Rotary's wide-ranging work within the Rossendale community and its charitable projects further afield, fostering greater local awareness and support.

Culmination with the Annual Carol Concert

The climax of the Rotary's Christmas calendar is the much-anticipated annual Carol Concert at St Mary’s Church in Rawtenstall. This year's event is scheduled for Friday, 19th December, beginning at 7pm.

Entry costs £6, payable on the door, and grants access to a performance by three acclaimed local choirs: the Rossendale Male Voice Choir, the Rossendale Ladies Choir, and the combined Rossendale Festival Choir. The ticket price includes tea, coffee, and biscuits served during the interval. Children under the age of 12 can attend for free.

Audience participation is warmly encouraged, with everyone invited to join in singing classic carols such as ‘The Holly and the Ivy’ and ‘Once in Royal David’s City’.

A Call for New Members and Helpers

To sustain and expand their impactful community work, Rossendale Rotary is actively seeking new members and volunteers. The club invites individuals interested in dedicating their time, talents, skills, and energy to improving lives both locally and internationally to come forward. They also encourage anyone who believes the Rotary may be able to assist them to make contact.

Those wishing to learn more or get involved should contact Club Secretary Arnold Sampson on 07973 310237.
