Rupesh Shah, an optical director at Specsavers in Fulham, joined colleagues from Central London stores to complete a 30-mile charity walk, raising over £2,600 for two children’s charities. The team covered 63,000 steps, visiting 22 stores while passing landmarks such as Kensington, Shepherd’s Bush, Hammersmith, Victoria, and Holborn. The walk began at the Kilburn store and ended at Golders Green.
Fundraising for Vital Causes
The funds raised will be split equally between the National Deaf Children’s Society and the Royal Society for Blind Children. The money will provide support, advice, and professional networks for children with hearing loss, deafness, or sight conditions.
Shah stated: “It’s a tough challenge walking 30 miles across the London streets in searing heat, but the team spirit has been incredibly motivating - we all kept each other going. Raising much-needed funds for the two children’s charities ultimately provided my real determination to succeed, as hopefully the money will offer support to those children most in need.”
Advanced Eye Care at Fulham Store
Customers at the Fulham branch can access state-of-the-art equipment, including an advanced 3D eye-scanning machine that detects serious conditions like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy up to four years earlier than traditional methods. This diagnostic test is available for an additional £5. Experts recommend adults have an eye test every two years, while children should visit annually. The NHS covers eye tests for all children under 16 and those under 19 in full-time education.
