Wales Air Ambulance Marks 25 Years with Coffee and Cake Fundraiser
Wales Air Ambulance 25th Anniversary Coffee and Cake Event

The Wales Air Ambulance is calling on its loyal supporters to help make its 25th anniversary the most significant celebration across Wales this year. Founded on St David's Day in 2001, the charity is marking this special milestone with the return of its beloved Coffee and Cake fundraising initiative.

A Sweet Way to Support a Lifesaving Cause

This engaging event encourages supporters to gather friends, family, or colleagues and host their own Coffee and Cake party throughout March. Participants can choose a time and location that suits them best, whether at home, in schools, offices, or community venues. The charity playfully notes that it "kneads" supporters to help raise some "dough" during these celebrations.

Making Every Slice Count

Every year, the Wales Air Ambulance must raise £13 million to maintain its fleet of helicopters and rapid response vehicles across Wales. These funds ensure that critical care reaches patients wherever and whenever needed, often saving crucial hours in emergency situations.

Laura Coyne, fundraising operations manager for the Wales Air Ambulance, expressed her enthusiasm: "We are delighted to be kicking off our 25th anniversary celebrations with our popular Coffee and Cake event. This marks our third year running this exciting fundraiser, and it's something that everyone can participate in."

She added: "Many of us enjoy catching up over a slice of cake. Whether you're part of a community group, school, business, or an individual, we would love to help and support you with your own event. We 'knead' your help to make this the biggest party!"

Previous Success Stories

Over the past two years, numerous schools, groups, families, and friends have hosted successful Coffee and Cake parties. One notable event took place at Lanelly House in Llanelli last year, organised by Tai Chi instructor Christine Clarke. The gathering raised £300 and brought together Tai Chi members, friends, guests, and representatives from Llanelli Town Council.

Christine reflected on the event: "It was a fantastic occasion with so many people chatting and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It was a really good day, so thank you everybody."

Another impressive fundraiser was held by Lampeter Trees, which has supported the Wales Air Ambulance since 2021. Their headquarters event attracted over 100 people who enjoyed coffee and cakes, raising £2,355 on the day. Their JustGiving page generated an additional £365 in donations.

How to Get Involved

Registration for the Coffee and Cake event is straightforward through the charity's website. Whether you're an experienced baker or prefer to purchase cakes from local shops, every sale contributes to this vital cause. The event offers a perfect opportunity to reconnect with loved ones or colleagues while supporting emergency medical services.

The Wales Air Ambulance operates through a unique partnership between the Third Sector and Public Sector. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service provides highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work aboard the charity's vehicles. This consultant-led service delivers hospital-standard treatments directly to patients, significantly improving survival rates and recovery times.

By participating in the Coffee and Cake fundraiser, supporters not only celebrate a quarter-century of lifesaving work but also contribute directly to keeping these essential services operational across Wales.
