Welsh Woman Dies in Australia Crash, Family Seeks £35k

A young woman from Wales who moved to Australia for a new life has died in a tragic car crash, leaving her family with a £35,000 struggle to bring her body home.

Tragedy in Australia

Annie Evans-Lewis, 21, from Llanybri, Carmarthenshire, had relocated to Australia with her boyfriend Cai to start what her family described as a "wonderful" new life. On 23 May, she was driving near Perth when she reportedly swerved off the road and crashed into a tree, suffering catastrophic injuries. She died in hospital later that day.

Doctors informed her devastated family that Annie had suffered a seizure while driving, which caused the fatal accident.

Family's Heartbreak

Family and friends described Annie as an "energetic, chaotic and hilarious" young woman, and said the pain of losing her has been "indescribable." Her loved ones remembered her as a "loving, kind and down to earth person" who was adored by everyone around her.

Fundraiser for Repatriation

A fundraiser has been launched to help bring Annie home to Wales for her funeral. The money raised will cover repatriation costs, funeral care fees in Australia, flights for family members, and other related expenses.

Emily Davies, who organised the fundraiser, said: "The pain being felt by all who knew her and loved her dearly is indescribable. Annie was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, girlfriend, and a friend to many. She will always be remembered as the most energetic, chaotic, hilarious, loving, kind and down to earth person."

She added: "I speak on behalf of my whole family when I say the response from this so far has been overwhelmingly incredible and we can't thank each and every one of you enough. This massive amount of support has provided relief and comfort to us all, with one less barrier in not only getting Annie home, but giving her the absolute best send off that she deserves too."

At the time of publication, more than £34,000 of the £35,000 target had been raised.
