The organisers of a popular west London half marathon are urgently seeking hundreds of community volunteers to support this year's landmark event. A total of 400 helper spots remain open across the race weekend, with route marshals being the most critical need.
Volunteer Roles and Impact
More than 700 volunteers typically power the half marathon each year, cheering on runners, distributing water, and managing the main venue at Walpole Park. Since 2012, the annual event has raised over £3.5 million for charity—a feat organisers say would be impossible without local support. Volunteering is open to everyone; no previous experience or high fitness levels are required. Helpers commit to four to six hours on the day and receive full guidance along with support from team leaders.
Available roles include route marshals, water station crews, baggage handlers, and set-up teams. Families can also assist during the dedicated children's mile event on Saturday.

Returning volunteer Tó B, who previously ran the race twice, commented: "I've run the EHM twice, but I decided to give it a break and volunteered to help a brilliant team that do amazing work—work you can only see in depth if you are part of the team. Thank you EHM team for the experience."
Community groups, businesses, and sports clubs are encouraged to sign up together as a team-building opportunity. Everyone who completes a volunteering role receives free entry to the 2027 half marathon, along with food and drink.
