Volunteers Transform Sparrow Lane Footpath in Knutsford Community Effort
Volunteers Transform Sparrow Lane Footpath in Knutsford

Early this month, Sparrow Lane received a remarkable makeover thanks to the dedication of local volunteers. Residents and volunteers from Bruntwood joined forces to enhance access along this well-used footpath, which connects Delmar Road to Higher Downs.

Community Action for Better Access

Knutsford Town Council organized the volunteering session as part of its strategy to promote active travel and improve accessibility for the community. The main task was to clear the buildup of detritus and overgrowth that had been narrowing the path, making it less usable for pedestrians.

Despite rainy weather, 24 volunteers generously gave their time and energy to support this practical improvement day. Their efforts have widened the footpath, creating a more open and accessible route that can be enjoyed by more people throughout the year. The sense of achievement was palpable, and the day underscored the value of working together as a community. It is hoped that this event will inspire further community involvement in future improvement days.

Jeanette Hine, corporate support manager, expressed her thanks: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in the day and contributed to its success. The strong turnout reflects the continuing commitment of local people caring for the town’s green spaces and public footpaths, and we are very grateful for their support.”

The town council plans to hold further improvement days throughout the year.
