Meet the Dogs

First up is Betty, a sweet, shy girl with an incredibly affectionate nature once she gets to know you. Kennel life can be stressful, but her beautiful personality shines through every day. Similarly, Riven is an incredibly nervous boy looking for an understanding home to help build his confidence. He finds everyday experiences overwhelming, but his progress so far has been truly heartwarming.

If you are looking for a gentle soul, Conrad the Greyhound is a friendly boy with a kind nature who would make a wonderful companion for both first-time and experienced owners. For a bit more energy, meet Patch—a goofy, fun-loving boy who firmly believes he is a lap dog despite his size, bringing joy to every single walk.

She needs a pet-free home with children aged 8 and above. Also available are Yokai, a beautiful young Cane Corso; Waterlily, a striking Shepherd Cross with incredible drive, intelligence, and energy; and handsome boy Max.

Family Fun Day

The fun kicks off at the Catherine-de-Barnes centre on Saturday 20th June from 10am to 4pm. Even better? Betty

Betty is a shy girl with a very affectionate nature once she gets to know you. She is currently finding kennel life quite stressful and can struggle in this environment but she continues to show her sweet personality every day. Betty came to us from another rescue. We have been told she has been adopted previously and sadly returned again through no fault of her own. We are now hoping that in our care we can find her the loving forever home she truly deserves. We are more than happy to discuss her previous return reasons at the centre if you feel you can offer her the right home. Betty is not suitable to live with other dogs due to being attacked by other dogs in her past. She is currently in training alongside her availability for ongoing dog desensitisation work to help her build confidence around them. She can be excited when you approach her kennel and shows that she is eager for interaction. On walks she is good on the lead and continues to make progress in her training. She can be shy with new people at first but once she feels safe she is very gentle and loving. Betty absolutely adores human interaction and enjoys spending time with people she trusts. She is very gentle and loves her soft toys which help her feel relaxed and happy. She would be best suited to a home with children aged 10 and over who can understand her sensitive nature and give her the time she needs to settle. Betty is a sweet girl who just needs patience, understanding, and stability. With the right home she will blossom into a very loving and loyal companion.

Riven

Riven is a very special little boy who is looking for a patient and understanding home that can continue in helping him build confidence. He is an incredibly nervous dog who finds many everyday experiences quite overwhelming – it has been lovely to see the progress he has made so far. Riven takes a long time to trust new people and will need adopters who are committed to visiting him regularly before adoption. Building a relationship with him cannot be rushed and any potential adopters should be prepared to come to the centre multiple times a week for as long as it takes Riven to feel comfortable. Once Riven learns to trust someone he is an extremely affectionate and loving companion. He seeks reassurance from those he feels safe with and enjoys being cuddled or carried like a baby! He also loves sitting quietly while being brushed. Riven can live with another calm dog although introductions will need to be managed carefully here at the centre. While he generally likes other dogs he can be wary if they are too excitable or overwhelming. Given time to build confidence he enjoys interacting with canine friends and has been known to engage in playful chase games once comfortable. Riven would be most comfortable in a home with no children. Due to limited socialisation Riven is still learning that collars, harnesses, and leads are nothing to be afraid of. He has made great progress and can now wear a collar and harness and walk on a lead. However if there is too much pressure on the lead or if equipment needs to go over his head, he may become worried. He is also currently undertaking muzzle training to help with future veterinary visits and continues to improve every day. This beautiful boy needs adopters who will respect his boundaries and allow him to progress at his own pace. He will not cope in a home where he is pushed beyond his comfort zone. With patience, kindness, and understanding – we know he will continue to blossom. Due to Riven’s complex needs, a conversation with our K9 Carers will be required before any meets can be arranged. We are looking for a very special home for a very special dog – one that can give him the time, security, and love he deserves!

Conrad

Conrad is a very sweet and gentle Greyhound who is looking for a loving home to call his own. He is a friendly boy with a kind nature and would make a wonderful companion for both experienced and first time owners. Conrad can become excitable when you approach his kennel and may forget his manners in his excitement but once out and about he walks nicely on the lead. He can occasionally pull towards other dogs as he is interested in saying hello but he is friendly and social in his interactions. Conrad does not currently show much interest in his toys though this may change once he settles into a home environment and gains confidence. He is gentle when taking treats which will be helpful for continuing his basic training and learning commands such as sit and lie down. He has shown no negative behaviours around food and is happy being handled while eating. Conrad also accepts being groomed and is comfortable being touched all over making him an easy boy to care for. Conrad must be the only pet in the home. He could live with children aged 8 and above as he can sometimes be unsure of loud noises or sudden movements though he has met younger children on walks and after some initial caution happily enjoyed lots of fuss. Conrad is a loving and gentle boy who is ready to find a home where he can continue building confidence and enjoy life as part of the family. If you are interested in adopting Conrad, please fill in an enquiry form below. You will then receive a questionnaire to complete. If your application is successful, we will then contact you regarding the next steps.

Eowyn

Eowyn is a young Rottweiler crossbreed female with a very sweet nature and a big love for people. She is incredibly people orientated and will happily stay close to you often leaning in or latching onto your legs to ask for fuss and attention. She would much rather cuddle than play and thrives on human interaction. She would be best suited to children 8 years and above and dog savvy due to her bouncy nature with no other pets in the household. Eowyn is a friendly and affectionate girl who is happy to meet new people and enjoys being the centre of attention. She can become very excitable when being groomed or handled but this is all part of her enthusiastic and loving personality. She is still very much a puppy and will need to learn basic obedience and lead manners. She can jump up in excitement and is currently under socialised on walks where she may pull or cut in front on the lead. With guidance and consistent training she will improve and grow into a well-mannered companion. Eowyn does know how to sit when given hand signals and treats and is very food motivated which will help greatly with her training. She is muzzle trained and will need continued socialisation work as she builds confidence. She is unsure how to play with toys and although she may chase them she does not yet fully engage. She much prefers cuddles and human interaction over toys. She will need a home that is committed to her training and muzzle work to which she will need to be muzzled at all times in public and happy to guide her through her puppy stages. Eowyn is a loving and affectionate girl who with the right support will grow into a wonderful and devoted companion.

Max

Max is a handsome boy who came to us from another rescue in hope of finding his forever home. He is a cheeky and affectionate boy with lots of personality who loves food! Max can be very wary of new people and likes to take his time getting to know someone. Once he feels comfortable his sweet and loving nature really shines through. Because of these reasons – multiple meets will be required to help him build a bond with his potential adopters before going home. Food is definitely the way to Max’s heart! He knows several basic commands including sit, paw, and lie down. He enjoys learning when tasty treats are involved! However he can sometimes become a little demanding around treats and may bark or snatch if he is feeling impatient so continued work on his manners will be beneficial. Max generally walks nicely on lead although he can occasionally pull when excited. He is not keen on being overhandled and wears a muzzle for veterinary visits to help him feel more comfortable during examinations. Potential adopters should be aware that Max has an existing heart condition and will require a follow up scan in 12 months time which will be covered by the rescue. He also has some mild joint changes that may require monitoring as he gets older. Our team will be happy to discuss his medical history in more detail here at the centre. Max is looking for a home with no other dogs and could live with dog-savvy children aged 13 years and over who can respect his boundaries. He is a lovely boy who is ready to find a patient and understanding home. With the right family he will make a loyal and rewarding companion. If you are interested in adopting Max, please fill in an enquiry form below. You will then receive a questionnaire to complete. If your application is successful, we will then contact you regarding the next steps.

Patch

Patch is a handsome American Bulldog with a huge heart and an even bigger personality. He can test boundaries when he first meets new people but once expectations are clear he settles well and shows his true affectionate nature. Patch is incredibly people focused and loving always wanting to be involved in whatever is going on around him. Outside of the kennel is where Patch truly shines. He is a goofy, fun loving boy who believes he is a lap dog despite his size and he brings lots of enthusiasm and joy to every walk and interaction. He enjoys being handled all over often softening into touch and happily engaging with you – sometimes even wagging his tail so hard he bumps himself in the face! Patch is very toy-motivated which makes play and engagement great fun though he does prefer not to share toys with other dogs. For this reason and to help him feel secure he is looking for a home where he will be the only dog. He also has a history of destroying soft toys so careful toy choices and supervision will be important. He walks on a Halti lead although he can still be strong at times and may cut in front when excited. Continued lead training and calm consistent guidance will help him develop lovely walking manners. A calm home environment will help him feel settled both emotionally and physically. Patch is sweet, playful, and full of character. He would benefit from experienced adopters who can provide clear boundaries, structure, and plenty of positive outlets for his energy and love of toys. He is looking for a home with children aged 16 and over and needs to be the only pet in the household. With the right guidance and a patient understanding family Patch has all the potential to become an incredibly loyal, entertaining, and deeply loving companion. If you are interested in adopting Patch, please fill in an enquiry form below. You will then receive a questionnaire to complete. If your application is successful, we will then contact you regarding the next steps.

Waterlily

Waterlily is a striking Shepherd Cross with incredible drive, intelligence, and energy. She is very much a working breed girl and must go to a home with experience of working Shepherd or Malinois breeds. She is not suitable for first time owners and will need confident, knowledgeable handlers who understand the needs of high drive dogs. Waterlily is extremely energetic and can be strong on the lead. She must remain on lead at all times when out and about as she currently has no reliable recall and uses a longline in enclosed paddocks. She is fully muzzle trained and must wear her muzzle in public. Waterlily has many wonderful qualities. While out on foster we have been told she is housetrained, travels well in the car, and has been out to town centres and markets. She knows a range of commands including some cues even given in German! She absolutely loves tennis balls and toys which are fantastic tools for engagement and continued training. When calm Waterlily softens beautifully into fuss and engages well with her handlers. She thrives when given structure, purpose, and clear boundaries. Waterlily is looking for an adult only, dog free home with experienced working breed owners who can continue her training, provide appropriate outlets for her drive, and manage her safely and responsibly. In the right hands she has the potential to be an incredibly loyal, capable, and rewarding companion.

Yokai

Yokai is a beautiful young Cane Corso who is now ready to find her forever home. She originally came into our care and was sadly returned due to showing some undesired behaviours which we are happy to discuss with potential adopters here at the centre. Since being back Yokai has spent time working closely with her K9 Carers and thanks to her progress and growing confidence we feel she is ready to begin the next chapter of her life with a loving family by her side. Yokai is still very much a work in progress and will require an experienced and understanding home. She is an undersocialised young dog who can be nervous around new people and unfamiliar situations. She can be quite hand-shy particularly around her head and although she will accept handling all over her body she can be unsure at times and will need continued confidence building and desensitisation training to help her feel comfortable. As a young Cane Corso Yokai is a large dog who will continue to grow and mature. She can pull forwards on the lead so she currently works on a Halti and will need confident handlers who are experienced and able to continue some basic training. Ongoing guidance, structure, and positive reinforcement will be essential to help her develop into a well-rounded adult dog. Despite her worries Yokai has formed positive relationships with people she knows and trusts. She is most motivated by human interaction and enjoys spending time with her handlers. She can be quite picky when it comes to treats but tasty food rewards and praise help her engage and build confidence. Yokai is still learning how to play and does not appear to fully understand toys yet. As she settles into a new home environment her new family may discover ways to build her confidence and encourage her playful side. Yokai will need to be the only dog in the home and is not suitable to live with cats or other small animals. She could live with sensible, dog savvy children aged 16 years and over who can understand and respect her boundaries. She is looking for patient, committed owners who can continue the work that has already been started and help her navigate the world with confidence. She may need a little extra understanding but for the right family she has so much potential. With continued guidance, patience, and love she has every chance of becoming a loyal and devoted companion.
