A pillar of the local walking community is hanging up his boots after an incredible 45 years of dedicated service. Tony Beardsley, one of the original founding members of the Erewash Ramblers committee, has announced he is stepping down from his official role.
A Lifetime of Rambling Leadership
Tony's remarkable journey with the group began decades ago when he first took on the position of programme secretary. His passion and commitment were quickly recognised, leading to his subsequent role as chairman, where he helped steer the group for many years. His extensive tenure provided the Erewash Ramblers with invaluable continuity and a deep well of knowledge about the local landscape and the walking community.
Fond Farewell and Continued Camaraderie
The group has expressed its profound gratitude to Tony for his decades of contribution. In a heartfelt acknowledgement, they thanked him for his vast experience, extensive knowledge, and ever-present good humour, which have been central to the group's friendly atmosphere. While he is retiring from the committee, walkers won't have to say a final goodbye. Tony plans to remain part of the social fabric, continuing to join fellow members for their popular post-walk lunches.
New Walkers Welcome in Erewash
This transition highlights the enduring appeal of community walking groups and the importance of fresh involvement. The Erewash Ramblers are actively welcoming new members from the local area. Any resident interested in exploring the countryside, improving their fitness, and enjoying social walks is encouraged to get in touch.
Prospective walkers should contact the group's publicity secretary, Stephen Bate, directly via email at publicity@erewashramblers.org.uk. The group is based around the River Erewash area, offering regular organised walks for all abilities.
