Parkinson’s UK is calling for volunteers to help establish and operate a new monthly café session in Folkestone, designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s and their families. The initiative aims to create a welcoming and accessible space where attendees can connect with others and access local peer support.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities
Volunteer café co-ordinators will be responsible for greeting attendees, coordinating with the venue team, and sharing updates and information from Parkinson’s UK. The role is intended to foster a friendly environment that encourages social interaction and mutual support among those affected by the condition.
Elisa Bienz, volunteer co-ordinator at Parkinson’s UK, emphasized the importance of such gatherings. “People tell us that meeting others living with Parkinson’s is the most important support they want locally. With your help, we can provide this in a relaxed, informal way at a new monthly Parkinson’s café in Folkestone,” she said.
Impact of the Café
The café will offer a regular opportunity for people to share experiences and advice, reducing feelings of isolation. Bienz added, “If you can spare a few hours a month I’d love to welcome you to volunteer with us, because with your support we really can change lives. Together we will identify a suitable venue in Folkestone and timings for the monthly café. Do get in touch if you would like to be involved.”
