Rossendale Rotary Blooms with Purple Crocus Gift to Local Civic Groups
Rossendale Rotary's Purple Crocus Gift to Community Groups

In a vibrant initiative to paint the valley purple this spring, Rossendale Rotary Club has distributed thousands of colourful crocus corms to community organisations dedicated to enhancing local beauty.

The club presented an impressive 10,000 purple crocus bulbs to various civic pride groups across Rossendale, ensuring that public spaces from Haslingden to Waterfoot will burst into colour when spring arrives.

Spreading Colour Across the Community

Among the recipients were the dedicated volunteers of Haslingden Community Link, who received 2,000 corms to brighten their local area. The Rossendale Pride of Place organisation, known for its commitment to environmental improvement, was gifted another 2,000 bulbs to distribute among their member groups.

Additional corms found homes with Friends of Rawtenstall Memorial Park and other community organisations committed to making Rossendale a more attractive place to live and visit.

More Than Just Flowers

Rossendale Rotary President Peter Wood explained the thinking behind the generous donation: "We wanted to do something that would benefit the whole community and bring some cheer after the winter months. These crocuses will not only create beautiful displays but also symbolise the growing community spirit in our valley."

The purple crocus holds special significance for Rotary International, representing their ongoing campaign to eradicate polio worldwide. Each bloom serves as a living reminder of this important humanitarian cause.

Planting for a Brighter Future

Community groups have already begun planting the corms in strategic locations where residents and visitors can enjoy the colourful displays. The timing is perfect, as crocuses planted in autumn typically bloom from late winter through early spring, providing much-needed colour during the transitional season.

This initiative follows Rossendale Rotary's successful community projects throughout the year, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to enhancing local life through practical and beautiful interventions.
